Supplies & Clothes 4 Homeless @ Our Own Library (SCHOOL) Drive

The Rapides Parish Library will kick off their year-round Supplies & Clothes 4 Homeless @ Our Own Library (SCHOOL) Drive on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Those who wish to help can contribute gently used and new school uniforms and clothes in all sizes as well as school supplies at any location of the Rapides Parish Library. These items will be distributed to homeless children and their families around the parish.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison Linda Ellington said, “The donations we collected last year helped children at eight Rapides Parish schools in 2012. This year we’ll be collecting school supplies and clothes for children at ten elementary and middle schools in the parish.”

Westside Regional Library Acting Manager Pam Martin, who heads the SCHOOL Drive, said, “Some homeless children live in shelters, and others spend a night or two with family or friends but have no permanent homes. We collect school uniforms and supplies to help them out.”

The Library collects brown or black belts, gently used or new school uniforms, school supplies, and clothes of all sizes. Local churches contribute as well. These items are given to the Rapides Parish School Board for distribution to children who are homeless and otherwise needy, as well as their families.
