“Summer Soldiers” Participate in Boss Lift Mission

bossliftmission2They’re often called summer soldiers. These are the men and women of the National Guard who spend hours training away from their day jobs each month and during the summer.

bossliftmission1We followed some members of the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team who participated in a Boss Lift Mission. These missions demonstrate to employers what these workers are doing when they go away to train.

Employers spent the day at Camp Shelby, which is near Hattiesburg.

This annual training allows these soldiers to hone their skills. They act as a support group for soldiers and can maintain and operate an entire encampment, just like a city, when they are deployed.
