One Hostage Killed, Suspect Dead in Standoff
Two hostages are shot, one killed, after a standoff that began yesterday afternoon and lasted 12 hours. It ended after police stormed a bank in Saint Joseph in Tensaw Parish, just northeast of here.
They say the suspect, 20-year-old Fuaed Abdo Ahmed, never intended to rob the bank. They say he was trying to make a statement and was known to be mentally ill.
“He was mad at people. He was mad at people who he said were mean to him. He had voices in his head. Of course, one of the demands was he wanted to have this device that was implanted in his head removed.” Says Colonel Mike Edmonson with the Louisiana State Police.
Initially, there were three hostages, all bank employees. Police negotiated the release of one last night, but they say when Ahmed said he was going to kill the other hostages, they had to move in. The suspect was killed by police.
