NSU’s Graduate Program Receives High Rankings

Northwestern_State_University_of_LouisianaNorthwestern State University’s graduate programs in education were included among the top masters in education degree programs in the United States ranked by mastersdegreeonline.org. Rankings are based on faculty and student demographics, the reputation of the college, tuition and student and faculty feedback. Specialization options, flexibility and faculty quality were also considered.

Northwestern State’s Gallaspy Family College of Education and Human Development offers three graduate degrees in the Department of Teaching and Learning that include master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction, early childhood education and special education. These programs offer relevant concentrations and are for individuals already licensed as a Louisiana teacher. The Department of Teaching and Learning also offers programs that provide initial teacher certification and a master’s degree. These include graduate degrees in early childhood education, elementary education, middle school education, secondary education, special education and elementary education, special education and middle school education.

The Education Leadership and Technology program offers five graduate degree programs in adult education, student affairs in higher education, educational leadership, educational technology leadership and educational leadership and instruction, each with specific concentration areas.

Add-on certification programs are offered online in multiple content areas through the Department of Teaching and Learning. An add-on certification in education leadership is offered the Department of Education Leadership and Technology. The College’s Department of Health and Human Performance offers a master’s degree with a concentration in health promotion.

Mastersdegreesonline.org compiled a directory of more than 90,000 program listings to help students determine identify the program that best matches their personal interests and career goals. Search results can be filtered by institution size, geographic area, tuition cost and school type. The organization’s report noted that online and evening classes are available for those already employed in education, allowing for flexibility in scheduling.
