New Red River Bridge Named Curtis-Coleman Bridge

bridgenamingThe new bridge over the Red River is now named the Curtis-Coleman Bridge. Officials say construction is expected to last for another year.

During the last legislative session, State Representative Herbert Dixon waited until the last minute to have the project named after the late Bo Curtis and Lemon Coleman, a former Pineville councilman.

Representative Dixon says the project is historic because the bridge is named after respected African Americans.

The old bridge was named the O.K. Allen Bridge after a former Louisiana governor. Dixon has taken criticism for the new name because people were concerned the name change was made through a surprise bill.
