Mudfest Evacuated Due to Flooding Red River

redriverfloodinggrantAll eyes are on the Red River in Alexandria and especially north of here in Grant parish where the swollen waters are causing a lot of problems. Many homeowners are stranded away from their houses, even those on stilts.

Meanwhile, several agencies had to scramble yesterday morning to evacuate 113 people from the Mudfest when a temporary ring levee gave way. No one was hurt and the sheriff says it could have been a lot worse.

The Mud Festival attracts tourists from all over the Deep South, and they’ll be waiting to hear when it’s safe to retrieve their equipment.

With rain forecast again for most of the week, many are wondering if the crest will be delayed or if there will be a gradual and slow lowering of the water levels around Central Louisiana.
