Missouri Soldier Dies in Training Accident at Fort Polk

class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-31606″ src=”http://klax-tv.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/FortPolk.jpg” alt=”FortPolk” width=”550″ height=”309″ />Fort Polk, LA – A 10th Mountain Division (LI) Soldier stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana with the 5th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team died Wednesday, Sept. 10 in a tactical vehicle incident in the Fort Polk training area.  Another Soldier was injured in the training incident and was airlifted to a regional hospital.

Deceased is Spc. Silas S. Jones, age 22, of Marionville, Missouri. He was a cannon crewmember.

Jones joined the Army in May 2012. After completing training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was assigned to Fort Knox, Kentucky, and arrived at Fort Polk in July 2014. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in June 2013 to February 2014.

Jones’ awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the
NATO Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Marksmanship Qualification Badge-Sharpshooter with Rifle.

The incident is currently under investigation by Fort Polk’s Directorate of Emergency Services and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.

No further information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
