LSUA Houses Large Hurricane Evacuation Shelter

Hurricane season is here and there’s a new place to seek shelter from the storm. The large evacuation shelter is at LSU of Alexandria.

Today, various groups met with the state’s emergency team to find out how evacuations will take place, if needed. The participants are the point people for assistance to evacuated families. These include the state family services, Red Cross, DHH and agriculture and forestry representatives.

The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is giving these workshops throughout the state.

The hurricane season officially started Sunday and it continues through the fall.
