Louisiana Crossroads to present an evening with Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue

gh2014horizontalThe City of Lake Charles and Louisiana Crossroads will present an evening with Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue in the Ben Mount Auditorium in Central School, Wednesday, March 26 at 7pm.

gal-holidayGal Holiday is a Country Swing band from New Orleans that incorporates original material with the best of country, rockabilly and western swing classics. Beginning her career at the age of 3, Vanessa Niemann frontlines The Gal Holiday band, which features some of the best country pickers in the New Orleans area, where they play regularly at some of their favorite spots in the Crescent City. Her vocal range glides seamlessly from a dreamy Patsy Cline to gritty, hard-edged Johnny Cash, with a twang of country reverence for Merle Haggard and Bob Wills. Niemann’s encyclopedic knowledge of American roots music punctuates each performance and lends gravity to a New Orleans country band that must co-exist with traditional jazz, zydeco and funk. The band’s first CD sold out quickly after two pressings. In 2010, they issued their second studio CD, Set Two, and their third album, Last to Leave, is slated for a national release in April 2014.

The Louisiana Crossroads concert series is known for its trademark mix of music and conversation, which includes moderated artist and audience question and answer sessions. The program airs via 100,000-watt regional National Public Radio affiliate KRVS, simultaneously streaming audio worldwide via krvs.org. The series will wrap up in Central School with Grammy-nominated, British soul singer James Hunter and his band the James Hunter Six with Louisiana All Stars on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
