Local Lawmakers Comment on Legislative Session

chamberlunchThe annual legislative session ended at the beginning of this month and some area lawmakers attended a review of what happened sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

It was a regular 85-day session that had a lot of controversy over common core and after the session about a bridge between Alexandria and Pineville. One lawmaker managed to slip into a bill a new name for the new bridge, the Curtis Coleman Memorial Span.

We asked a couple lawmakers how well the people of Central Louisiana were served from April until June.

There’s more to do, probably in a courtroom, over the common core issue. And at least one senator says he’ll try to undo the bridge name to allow for more public input.

However, the next session, which isn’t until next year, will be fiscal only and apply to money matters.
