He’s 44-year-old Reldon Owens, an executive with Diamond B Construction. Owens, a Republican, has never run for public office.
Already in the race is Mary Werner, a Democrat from Leesville. Incumbent and PSC Chairman Clyde Holloway is not expected to seek another 6-year term for health reasons.
Qualifying for the November 8th primary starts July 20th and runs through July 22nd. The sprawling district covers all or part of 17 parishes, including Rapides.
