landrieuU.S. Senate candidate Mary Landrieu is in Leesville today meeting with the group organized to save Fort Polk.

You may recall the U.S. Army base is on a list of military installations considered for closure. Fort Polk Progress has formed an alliance of residents, businesses, and government officials lobbying to save the army base.

Landrieu has made Fort Polk a major argument for her re-election campaign.

Landrieu is opposed by three republicans: Bill Cassidy, Thomas Clements and Rob Maness; three democrats: Wayne Ables, Vallian Senegal and William Waymire; as well as one libertarian, Brannon McMorris.

Joining Landrieu today at the luncheon is General Hondo Campbell of Fort McPherson Georgia, who has retired from active duty. General Campbell earned his commission in the Army through ROTC at LSU.
