JPs, Constables Fighting to Run for Re-Election

JPs_ConstablesThat issue about too old to serve which is affecting some state judges is also now gumming up the election works for justices of the peace and constables.

A Lafayette area senator got a last-minute bill passed in the spring that forces them to retire at age 70. Now even he, Senator Elbert Guillory tells KATC’s Akeam Ashford he’s opposed to the legislation.

The new law will affect a lot of JPs and constables and many of them are filing a lawsuit to permit them to run for re-election.
