UpStage Theatre Company of Baton Rouge, is proud to present “The Dance on Widow’s Row”, written by the award-winning playwright Samm-Art Williams. The play depicts four wealthy widows in the fictional city of Port Town, NC who invite the area’s four most eligible bachelors to an intimate soiree for eight. Having already buried nine husbands altogether, the ladies know that neighbors’ tongues will wag about their gathering; but they are willing to endure vicious gossip if there is a chance that they will meet “Mr. Right” during the evening. “The Dance on Widow’s Row” is a light comedy about death, dating and superstition – – or, more specifically, about how hard it can be for a woman to get a date after she’s buried a few husbands.
“The Dance on Widow’s Row” is under the direction of Dr. Ava Brewster-Turner who is the Founder and Executive Artistic Director of UpStage Theatre Company. She is also a former Drama Teacher at Peabody Magnet High School and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The cast features Shantell Freeman, Brittany Tanner, Kyesolyn Byrd, William Farris, Antoine Pierce, Bianca Siplin, and Leroy London.
