Triple A expects Independence Day travel will be at an eight-year high. The auto association says almost 42-million Americans will travel nearly 50 miles or more from home. They attribute this to rising income from a strong employment market.
But law enforcement agencies are warning everyone to stay home if you plan to drink alcohol. Louisiana saw 374 fatalities and injury crashes over the long holiday last year. State troopers say their message is drive sober or get pulled over.
Also, most drivers will pay the lowest Independence Day gas prices in at least five years.
On the flip side, Triple A says lodging for moderately priced hotels has increased by seven and a half percent.
