Fort Polk Saved

Fort Polk is saved.  That’s the word issued today by U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu.

Boosters of the base in Leesville and Alexandria learned this morning the latest round of cuts will cause Fort Polk to lose 240 soldiers.  That’s a far cry from the 54 hundred first proposed.  Most importantly, for the Chambers of Commerce, the Brigade Combat Team will be left intact.

Landrieu says the community’s efforts to make the case for Fort Polk helped save the base.  Nationally, bases will lose some 80 thousand troops over the next four years.  Randolph says she and others have been spending a lot of time lobbying to save the base, the Joint Readiness Training Center and the millions of dollars they represent.
