Fire in Bordelonville

Strong winds are to blame for a fire in Bordelonville which destroyed part of an old structure that was scheduled for demolition.  Nobody was hurt.  Ironically, it’s across highway 451 from the volunteer fire department.

Yesterday’s blaze brought in firefighters from 6 other towns to make sure it didn’t spread.  The building has been an abandoned school since 1988 and was once used by the Avoyelles Sheriff as a facility for female inmates.

The gym is planned for use as a community center serving Bordelonville and Longhorn.  Gaspard says a controlled burn got out of hand, and embers were blown into the structure.  He says it took them about an hour to put the fire out.
