Fifth Graders Participate in Forest Awareness Week

forestclassSome 700 fifth graders from Rapides Parish have been spending all week in the woods. It’s Forest Awareness Week, sponsored by the Louisiana Forestry Association and others.

The children go into the forests to learn about the number one crop in Central Louisiana. They also learn how scientists are trying to help tree farmers.

Other sponsors are the State Forestry Office, the U.S. Forest Service, the Conservation Service and the School Board.

The volunteers are proud to say there may be some future foresters in these groups who roam through the woods each fall.
