This is an occasion for new attorneys in the district to be welcomed, and those who have died in the past year are remembered by their colleagues.
The judges of the district sit together to mark the beginning of the court term, though one will soon be gone. Judge Donald Johnson is retiring.
In addition, the annual award for public service was presented to retired Judge Lewis Love whose daughter, Mary Lauve Doggett, now serves on the bench.
