Courir de Mardi Gras Features Chicken Chase for Gumbo

class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-47357″ src=”” alt=”courirdemardigras” width=”500″ height=”273″ />In Evangeline parish, the famous Courir de Mardi Gras started early yesterday morning. This tradition goes back decades and is native to the Prairie Cajun part of Louisiana.

Revelers take to horseback and chase chickens for the gumbo to be made later in the day. And, they have an incredibly good time, dressed out in costumes that are made from rags. Many of these riders have been doing this on Mardi Gras since they were youngsters.
