CLTCC to Host Free Robotics Summer Camps for Incoming and Current High School Students

Camps will use robotics to promote interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics

Alexandria, La., May 19, 2015 — Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) has partnered with Red Stick Robotics to promote interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through Robotics courses.

Central Louisiana students entering grades nine through 12 will have an opportunity to build and program robots and compete against other teams robots.

CLTCC will host a three-day camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its seven campuses in Alexandria, Cottonport, Ferriday, Jena, Leesville, Oakdale, and Winnfield beginning June 1.  Daily attendance is required, and lunch will be provided.  Each camp can accommodate up to 24 students for a total of 168 students college-wide.  The camps are free and all expenses are covered by grant funds.

“These camps are possible due to funds from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act,” said Jimmy Sawtelle, CLTCC Acting Chancellor.  “These camps are about getting the next generation of workers interested in STEM career fields, which will help meet industry needs.  We want to leverage Career and Technical Education to deliver STEM competencies.”
