Cane River Green Market Fall Season Starts October 12
NATCHITOCHES
The Cane River Green Market will be open Saturdays, October 12 through November 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the downtown riverbank in Natchitoches. The market features local vendors of fresh fruits and vegetables, value-added products such as jams, jellies, baked goods, farm fresh eggs and honey, as well as handcrafted items including jewelry and woodwork. Market day activities include special programming, musical performances, children’s activities, Zumba classes, and demonstrations.
The Cane River Green Market accepts WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers. WIC and Senior FMNP vouchers issued over the summer can be redeemed at participating vendors during the fall market season.
In addition, Cane River Green Market now accepts EBT/SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. SNAP benefits may be used to purchase eligible food items such as bread products, produce, eggs, dairy products, seeds, and edible or food producing plants. Through a MarketMatch program, the market will match up to $20 in SNAP purchases per market while supplies last. The MarketMatch program meets SNAP shoppers who want to eat healthy and support local farmers half way. The MarketMatch campaign is made possible by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, The Rapides Foundation, Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, and MarketUmbrella.org.
