Investigators with the attorney general’s FAU yesterday arrested 38-year-old Derrick D. Daniel, who went into hiding after being indicted by an East Feliciana Parish Grand Jury for vehicular homicide in May. The indictment stems from a November 2012 alcohol-related crash that killed Kenneth Taylor, Jr. of Baton Rouge, a passenger in Daniel’s vehicle.
After being contacted by the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office for assistance, the FAU located and apprehended Daniel at a residence in Zachary. He was booked into the East Feliciana Parish Jail. Yesterday’s arrest marks the Unit’s 900th arrest since its inception in 2008.
“I am proud of all the hard work our Fugitive Apprehension Unit has put into locating and apprehending these dangerous offenders,” said Attorney General Caldwell. “We’ve received an amazing level of teamwork and cooperation from the many local law enforcement agencies around the state and nation who partner with us to bring these criminals to justice.”
Attorney General Buddy Caldwell created the FAU in 2008 to assist local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies with locating and apprehending fugitives from justice. Caldwell said the unit has successfully pinpointed and captured dangerous fugitives wanted for violent felony offenses such as murder, aggravated rape, attempted murder, sex crimes, theft and armed robbery. “Our brave Fugitive Apprehension Unit is making Louisiana a safer place by getting these criminals off the streets,” he said.
