Arbor Day Celebration Set For January 18 At Louisiana State Arboretum

Passion_logoVILLE PLATTE – Celebrate Louisiana’s Arbor Day with a day full of activities at the Louisiana State Arboretum on Saturday, January 18, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The tree seedling give-a-way will begin after the opening ceremony at 10 am.  Games, crafts and tree care and planting information will be available throughout the day.  Tree seedlings to be given away will include American snowbell, bald cypress, crabapple, longleaf pine, yaupon holly, tulip poplar and four types of oak trees.

The Louisiana State Arboretum is a 600-acre preservation area providing six miles of hiking trails amid some of Louisiana’s most magnificent trees.  Nature programs on varying subjects from wildlife gardening to birdwatching are offered throughout the year, and for groups of 10 or more by request.  The Arboretum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 per person to enter Chicot State Park. Once inside Chicot, the Arboretum is free.

The Arboretum Nature Center is located six miles north of Ville Platte on La. 3042, within Chicot State Park or three miles south of La. 106.
