AMOA Exhibit: Art Shapes the World

Youth Art Month (YAM) is an annual celebration every March to emphasize the value of art education for all youth, and to encourage support for quality school art programs. YAM provides a forum for acknowledging skills that are fostered through experience in the visual arts. Alexandria Museum of Art supports YAM with the exhibition Art Shapes the World: 10th Annual Youth Art Month Juried Exhibition, which features artwork submitted by area students of all ages, as well as works by local art educators.

This juried exhibition features four age categories; Kindergarten – 2nd grade; 3rd grade -5th grade; 6th grade – 8th grade; and 9th grade – 12th grade.  Each category will be awarded a 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and two Honorable Mention awards. The Awards Ceremony for the exhibition will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, March 8, 2014 during our Youth Art Month Festival on the grounds of the Alexandria Museum of Art. All students of central Louisiana are welcome to come join us for a day full of “art fun.”

The annual Youth Art Month Festival will be held at AMoA and will feature hands-on art activities for youth of all ages, including face painting, balloon surprises, paper hats, chalk fest, bead mosaics, tie dye, a collaborative canvas, decorating dragons and printmaking. Come to the Museum to celebrate and support the creativity of our youth!

As part of the YAM Festivities, The Muse, AMoA’s club for teens and young adults, will hold a youth open mic event at the Museum from 6-8pm on Saturday, March 8. Participants between the ages of 14 – 21 are invited to take part in musical and spoken word performances. The event is free and open to the public. Come hear Cenla teens and young adults weave words and music to the beat of their own souls!
