Adopt-A-Block Program Sponsoring Backpack Giveaway
NATCHITOCHES – Faith Family Church’s Adopt-A-Block Program will hold a backpack giveaway on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the MLK Recreation Center in Natchitoches for students in need. Backpacks will contain crayons, a ruler, scissors, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils, pens, binders, tissue, a pencil pouch and folders. In preparation of the giveaway, a fundraiser and school supply drive will be held at Walmart Friday, July 19, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Adopt-A-Block program is an outreach program of Faith Family Church that attempts to bring basic needs to under-served areas and build relationships in the community. “By asking the simple question of how we can be of service, we make ourselves available to meet people’s needs where they are,” said Adopt-A-Block Director Meghan Boudreaux.
Currently, Adopt-A-Block has partnered with J.W. Thomas Apartments and Parks Elementary School. Volunteers of the Saturday morning outreach program go out into the community providing services such as cleaning houses, passing out basic household needs, playing with children, and serving as mentors. “Our goal is to be a part of several communities within the city,” stated Boudreaux.
