Meet the 5th District Congressional Candidates

forum114 men are vying for one congressional seat.  Six of the 14 candidates are currently holding office.  We asked them why they’re the best in the race.

Clyde Holloway is a Republican from Forest hill, Jamie Mayo and Robert Johnson are both Democrats; Mayo is from Monroe and Johnson is from Marksville.

State Representative Marcus Hunter of Monroe and Representative Jay Morris of Monroe are both Democrats and State Senator Neil Riser of Columbia is a Republican.

Other candidates in the race include:  Green Party candidate Eliot Barron, who is a New Orleans real estate agent, Tom Gibbs, no party affiliation, is a Ouachita Parish petroleum land broker and Henry Herford Junior, a Libertarian from Delhi, is a retired teacher and real estate agent.

Republican Vance McAllister is a Monroe businessman; Weldon Russell III is a Democrat and a former state rep and is the only candidate from the Florida parishes.  Blake Weatherly is a Republican and an engineer from Calhoun, near Monroe.

Peter Williams is not party-affiliated and is from Point Coupee Parish and Samir Zaitoon is a Libertarian and a Baton Rouge insurance broker, who has been a perennial candidate for elective office.
