The rice season harvest is kicking into second gear.
The first round of crops are planted in March and then harvested around August. But around October, a second round is re-grown called “ratoon crops.” These produce nearly 30 percent more crop for the season. KATC’s Kari Beal in Lafayette says the ratoon crops are really important this year.
The 78th International Rice Festival is October 16th through the 19th in Crowley. There will be cooking contests, parades, music and more.
