13-year-old Boy Charged with Second-Degree Murder

Authorities in Jefferson Parish say a five-year-old girl died after her half-brother performed wrestling moves on her.

An ambulance was called to their apartment Sunday afternoon.  That’s where officials say they found the girl lying unresponsive on a bathroom floor.  She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff says the child had several injuries, like broken ribs and internal bleeding.  Her 13year old half brother told authorities they were playing around and he had done wrestling moves on her.

Sheriff Newell Normand says the girl was “slammed on the bed, slammed over his knee… elbowed and things of that nature and pounded upon… suffered internal injuries and obviously succumbed to those injuries.”

The 13 year old is charged with second-degree murder.
