Presentations are made today about proposed Wal-mart Community Stores in Alexandria and Pineville.
These are smaller grocery stores, which serve a defined community.
One is proposed for Belleau Wood and Jackson Street in Alexandria, the other for Highway 28 East in Pineville.
There is opposition to the one in Alexandria, which will be competing with four other groceries in the community.
These Wal-marts are being built throughout Louisiana, and they provide mostly groceries. Five are proposed in the Monroe area.
The developer today appeared before the Rapides Area Planning Commission today, but nothing is definite about the brand of store until they apply for building permits.
