Volunteers Needed for the Resource Advisory Council Committee

USForestServicePineville, La. – Kisatchie National Forest is looking for volunteers to serve on the  Kisatchie Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). The purpose of the RAC is to review and vote on project proposals associated with the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act (SRS). Projects must be on or beneficial to the management of the Kisatchie National Forest as well as improve the maintenance of existing infrastructure, implement stewardship objectives that enhance forest ecosystems, or restore and improve land health and water quality.

The RAC committee is authorized under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act (Pub.L 110-343) and in compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The RAC represents a cross section of parish communities, industries, schools, and local government representatives from each of the parishes where the Kisatchie National Forest is located (Grant, Rapides, Winn, Natchitoches, Vernon, Webster, and Claiborne). Volunteering for the RAC is open to anyone who is interested in serving.

The SRS authority expired in 2012, however Congress is considering re-authorization.  Should this occur the Forest Service needs to be ready to re-convene a RAC and accept new project proposals.  For additional information about the RAC committee and how to volunteer please contact Amy Robertson, Public Affairs Specialist, at (318) 473-7025 or aerobertson@fs.fed.us
