Vernon Parish Offers Aid to Flood Victims


-FIRST NOTICE: Those who have been affected by the flooding, with homes damaged in Vernon Parish, are asked to call the OEP Office and add their name/information to the parish list. This count is toward the effort to get relief aid for the parish. That number is 337-238-0815

-Julie Lawrence wanted to let the Community know about this!! We are set up at the Evans youth center with FREE CLOTHES, FOOD, PERSONAL ITEMS, and 40 COTS FOR PEOPLE TO SLEEP ON! PLEASE COME OUT WE ARE HERE FOR YOU ALL!

-A shelter has been set up at Canaan Baptist Church at 19190 La. 8 for those affected by the flooding that need a place to stay.

-The Burr Ferry Pentacostal Church at 23606 La. 8 – Burr Ferry & Evans residents affected by the flood, please come by. We have a large, selection of FREE donated clothing for kids, women, and men. We also accepting donations of all sizes. Meals are being served for evacuees, displaced residents.

-Soul Soup at 808 E. First Street in DeRidder is open daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. serving hot meals to anyone displaced or anyone in need of a hot meal.

-LAMA and Leesville FUMC at 202 N. 5th Street in Leesville is open on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with non-perishable food bags. Leesville FUMC also sponsors a hot meal on Thursdays from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m . for anyone.

-From Sue Flurry Downing- This is for anyone whose home was flooded. You can sign up at the following locations on Monday at 9:00 am if you do not have flood insurance and you can receive FREE help cleaning your flooded property. Locations: Burkeville 1st Baptist, 1st Baptist Church Newton, 1st Baptist Kirbyville, Central Baptist Buna, Central Baptist Evadale and Trout Creek Fire Station. Anyone can sign up if you do not have flood insurance.

-The Leesville First United Methodist Church will be receiving approx. 300 cleaning buckets from UMCOR sometime this week, please call (337) 239-3828 for more info

-For those who have livestock displaced at this time, the Vernon Parish Arena District is making the arena available. Owners are responsible for their animals and the animals feed/water/care. You may visit the Vernon Parish Police Jury and speak with Ms. Belinda Diehl to sign the necessary paperwork. The phone number to the jury is 337-238-0324.

-HIXSON FUNERAL HOME, LEESVILLE, Could you please let everyone know we are a collection site here at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville for Pillows, Blankets, garbage cans, laundry baskets, plastic totes with lids, dishes, cookware etc.

-GOODWILL, LEESVILLE, I wanted to let you know we are assisting with clothing vouchers here at Goodwill as well if you hear of anyone needing anything!  Individuals may utilize the Goodwill Drop-In Center computers to complete any necessary paperwork in regards to the river flooding and I will be on hand to assist in completing the forms if help is needed.

-Vernon Medical Care is also collecting donations today and tomorrow from 8-5 and we will be delivering them tomorrow evening.
