Troopers say 54-year-old Steven Netherland of Simpson lost control of his car in a construction zone and hit two dirt compactors and a large roadway stabilizer.

He was on duty at the time.  Troopers say he was thrown from his service vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt.

Netherland served for more than 22 years with state police before retirement.  He was with the sheriff’s office for about a year.
