University High to Host Open House
An open house will be held next week to introduce the new high school in Rapides Parish to parents and students.
It’s a lab school at LSU of Alexandria to open August 1st and to be called University High of Cenla. Officials say it will offer dual enrollment, starting in the 9th grade, and will provide up to 60 hours of college credits through the program. It will be a tuition-based school, but payment plans will be offered. And, it will be a lab school for education majors at LSUA.
Well-known area educator Heather Poole is handling enrollment.
“The opportunity actually allows for students to take advantage of requirements for a diploma and be eligible for TOPS while also being able to receive up to 60 hours of college credit. So students can actually end up with a diploma and an associates degree,” says Poole.
The open house will be Tuesday, February 25th from 9:30 to 2:30 in Oakland Hall on campus.
Poole says the new high school will be absorbing Cenla Christian Academy, which has had financial problems. The partnership with University High will not include a religious component.
