(Alexandria, LA) – The Rapides Parish Main Library Celebrates 50 Years in the Community!
Join us on October 22, 2015 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm as we celebrate our 50th year in service to the community.
The Rapides Parish Library may be a bit more festive than usual on October 22, 2015 and that’s because the Main Library will be celebrating 50 years of service to the citizens of Alexandria and Rapides Parish.
The Rapides Parish Main Library opened its doors to serve the community on Sunday, June 20, 1965 to an enthusiastic crowd of over 600 people. On October 22nd, we will be commemorating not only the civil servants who saw the need for a public library but the citizens of Rapides Parish who overwhelming voted and supported the building of the ultra-modern and spacious public library. There will be exhibits throughout the library illustrating our past and our future as well as brief comments from staff and special guests. There will be refreshments served afterward in the Children’s Area.
Since opening its doors, the Rapides Parish Library System has continued to serve the growing central Louisiana area. The Rapides Parish Library system consists of a Main Library, five urban branches, four rural branches, a bookmobile, outreach services to the homebound and child development centers, as well as youth programs and services throughout the parish.
The mission of the Rapides Parish Library is to promote lifelong learning, enhanced quality of life, and literacy through print, audiovisual and electronic resources. The Library staff ensures that all citizens receive the maximum value from available informational, educational and recreational materials.
