Some students at Julius Patrick Elementary have a new teacher, at least for part of today.
He’s State Treasurer John Kennedy, who is teaching these kids about the state’s piggy bank, which he oversees. Kennedy gave these students an overview of his job and how it affects the lives of their families.
We talked to him about his campaign in the Louisiana Legislature to trim state contracts.
Kennedy says there are some 19 thousand contracts outside of health and education, which could save the state billions of dollars if they’re cut or trimmed. He and the governor have been at odds over a policy to provide oversight and reduce the number of contracts handed out each budget y ear.
