This morning he was at the Central Louisiana Technical College speaking about the changing future of the school. Considered the vocational tech school, it plans to become a full-fledged community and technical college.
Meanwhile, wherever he goes, he’s asked about the embattled common core curriculum.
This morning he visited the Avoyelles Public Charter School in Mansura. White is on what he calls a “Louisiana Believes” tour. That includes work to change the state’s diploma system — providing one route for students headed to college and another for those ready to gain job skills.
Superintendent John White’s tour in Central Louisiana also takes him to Peabody Montessori Elementary School. He met with teachers and spoke with them about their concerns with changes affecting their classrooms.
White says he wants to hear from the teachers about their daily challenges and needs. He says the change to more rigorous standards will be a time of transition for teachers, students, and parents.
