Soldiers Prepare for Deployment Prior to Holidays

LANatlGuardsoldiersWhile many prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families, others are saying farewell. Soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard’s 2nd battalion, 244th aviation regiment, are saying good-bye as they plan to leave for Kosovo.

Around 20 will provide care en route to medical treatment, as well as aircraft maintenance. They are now headed for training at fort hood, texas, before they leave for their nine month deployment.

This unit was originally a medical detachment at Lakefront Airport in New Orleans and later deployed to desert storm. It has since served in Afghanistan.

This deployment ceremony for family and friends took place at Esler Airfield.
