The Rapides Parish School Board has elected its first-ever female, African American president. Janet Dixon of Alexandria was elected to a one-year term yesterday, and will call and preside over meetings.
Dixon is a businesswoman and wife of State Representative Herbert Dixon, a former school board member. Dixon was instrumental in the controversial move last year to change superintendents.
Elected vice president is Julie McConathy of Deville.
