Queensryche to Perform at Paragon
MARKSVILLE,
Queensryche is a progressive metal band from Seattle, Washington that was formed in 1981. The original line up consisted of a group of high school friends looking to make it big. On lead vocals was Geoff Tate, guitarists Chris Degarmo and Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield.
Queensryche was one of the most distinctive bands of the era. Their unique sound was built on the legacy of Van Halen, Aerosmith and Kiss. Queensryche constructed a progressive form of heavy metal that drew equally from the guitar pyrotechnics of Van Halen and 70s art rock. The band began to break into the mainstream with the acclaimed 1988 album “Operation: Mindcrime.” It included orchestral arrangements from Michael Kamen. The album was Queensryche‘s most ambitious work of art to date, earning both positive reviews and significant sales. “Operation: Mindcrime” stayed on the American charts for a year, selling over a million copies during its run.
Its follow-up, “Empire,” was the group’s biggest success, selling over two million copies due to the hit single “Silent Lucidity.” The album peaked at number seven on the U.S. charts and went double platinum in America. Hit single “Silent Lucidity,” received significant airplay from MTV and mainstream rock radio. In 1992, it was nominated for a Grammy as the best rock song.
Queensryche also released a single on the “Real World” soundtrack and for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1993 movie, Last Action Hero. Over the years, the band had a flow of new and old members. Queensryche featuring original vocalist, Geoff Tate, is actively touring in the United States. Paragon is proud to be a stop for this amazing group.
