Portion of Lee St. Closes Due to Diesel Spill

A portion of Lee Street Extension in Alexandria is shut down early this morning after an 18-wheeler overturns. Alexandria police called in HAZMAT, because the big rig was leaking diesel. The cleanup took a few hours, and detours were posted between Broadway and Industrial.

Police say the driver of the 18-wheeler was backing up to unload building material when a car driven by 33-year-old Eli Barnes of Alexandria ran into it. He has minor injuries.

Both Barnes and the driver of the semi, 65-year-old Larry Hall of Opelousas, are cited for traffic offenses.
