PARTY TO CELEBRATE LITTLE WALTER’S BIRTHDAY TONIGHT

The public is invited to celebrate Little Walter’s birthday with cake and music at Tipitina’s Music Co-op in Alexandria on Friday, May 1 between 5-7 p.m.
May 1 would have been the 85th birthday of central Louisiana’s only Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Marion Walter Jacob.
The party is free and open to the public. Music by the Fourth Street Blues Band will be preforming in front of Tipitina’s, located on DeSoto Street. Cake, created by Atwood’s Bakery, will be served inside Tipitina’s. Broken Wheel Brewery, a local brewery in Marksville, will have beer samples available for party attendees over 21 years of age. Broken Wheel offers brews such as Spring Bayou Blond, named after Spring Bayou in Avoyelles Parish and also the name of the road where Little Walter was born.
Marion Walter Jacob was born in Marksville and raised in Alexandria before ending up in Chicago, playing with Muddy Waters, and producing his own music.
The celebration will continue on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the downtown Alexandria Amphitheater with the third annual Little Walter Music Festival. Music starts at 11 a.m. and will include bands such as Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, the Angola Gospel Group, the Mathew Davidson Band, Buddy Flett and the Red River Boys, Mr. Sipp the Mississippi Blues Child, George “Harmonica Red” Heard and the Little Walter Tribute Band, the James Boogaloo Bolden Blues Band, Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues, and more!
