Parents in Grand Coteau are facing charges for the crimes their kids are accused of. It’s the police department’s way of cutting down on a spike in juvenile crime while kids are out of school for summer.
Assistant Police Chief Mike Buck says kids have become repeat offenders by either breaking curfew, breaking into homes or wandering in areas they don’t belong. After kids have several offenses, parents can face charges.
If parents are found guilty, they could face fines or possible jail time. But kids aren’t off the hook. After several offenses, they could be sent to a juvenile detention facility.
