Oldest African-American Church Plans to Relocate
A local church, which says it’s the oldest African-American congregation in this area, is about to embark on a new beginning.
Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church has been here for some 130 years. It’s broken ground on a new sanctuary in the 3100 block of Lee Street. The church’s original home was on Washington, but the members have been in a temporary building while they plan for their new structure.
The minister is the Reverend Doctor Raymond Franklin. The groundbreaking was celebrated late yesterday.
