NATCHITOCHES — Hornist Abigail Pack, oboist Ashley Barret and pianist James Douglass will perform at Northwestern State University Friday, April 25 at 5:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
Pack, Barret and Douglas are faculty members at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. They are on a tour of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
The program includes “Ballade, Op. 133” by E. York Bowen, “Berceuse, Op. 19” by Jean-Michel Damase, “Sonata” by William Alwyn and “Dresdner Trio, Op. 130” by Jan Koetsier.
Pack has been on the faculty at James Madison University, Knox College and Western State College. She has held positions with the Barton, Quad Cities and Des Moines symphony orchestras and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. Pack performs with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival Orchestra, the Southwest Chamber Orchestra and the Opera Roanoke Orchestra.
Barret holds the principal oboe position with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra in addition to being a frequent performer throughout the southeastern U.S. She has appeared as soloist with the Salisbury Symphony, the Florida State Wind Orchestra, the UNCG Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, the Pottstown Symphony Orchestra and has presented numerous guest recitals and master classes throughout the United States, Caribbean, Central America, Canada, Germany, China, New Zealand and Australia.
Douglass has been involved in diverse genres including chamber music, vocal arts, opera, choral arts, symphonic repertoire, jazz, cabaret and musical theater. Douglass has served on the faculties of Mississippi College, Occidental College, USC and Middle Tennessee State University. Performances as a collaborative pianist have included recitals and television/radio broadcasts across the United States and in Europe.
