Mayor's Briefing

Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy says he is offering what he calls an olive branch to a city councilman angry over the mayor's absence at council meetings. This results from a shouting match Tuesday between the mayor and Ed Larvadain III. Roy says he'll begin to deal with committee chairmen over controversial issues, but council members must do their part, too.

"IT'S GONNA REQUIRE THAT THE COMMITTEE CHAIRS, EITHER THROUGH THEMSELVES OR SOME DESIGNEE, ENGAGE WITH US TO DO THAT. I THINK IT WILL BE BETTER FOR THE CITY, IT'LL PRESENT INFORMATION IN A MORE COGENT MANNER AND IN A MORE EFFICIENT MANNER SO IT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE WANT TO DO."

Roy and some staff members stopped attending council meetings several weeks ago after a series of confrontations with some council members.
The mayor said he has, instead, sent reports to the councilmen.
