New Head of LA DOTD: More Funding Needed for Highways

Shawn Wilson, the newly appointed Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says it will be up to the new governor and legislature to make decisions on increasing tax revenue for highway projects.

The transition committee on transportation recommends additional funding to whittle down the $12 billion backlog of highway projects in the state.

He also identified 4 top priorities for the new administration: relieving I-10 congestion around Baton Rouge, a new I-10 interchange in New Orleans for the new airport terminal, strong consideration of light rail between Baton Rouge and New Orleans and completion of I-49 south.
