Music, dance recital set for Nov. 7 at NSU

class=”alignleft size-full wp-image-20066″ style=”margin: 2px 4px;” alt=”Northwestern_State_University_of_Louisiana” src=”http://klax-tv.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Northwestern_State_University_of_Louisiana.png” width=”200″ height=”200″ />NATCHITOCHES – Cellist Paul Christopher and pianist Elena Bogaczova will be joined by the NSU Dance Company in a recital Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free. The public is invited.

The program is “Au Crepuscule” by Jacques Offenbach and “Suite for Solo Cello” by Mark Prince Lee featuring the NSU Dance Company with choreography by Brett Alan Garfinkel. The dancers will be David Brumfield of Prairieville, Austin Babin of Baton Rouge, Claire Cook of Shreveport, Kristen Richardson of Kaplan and Marlee Roberts of Natchitoches.

Also to be performed are “Piece for Violincello and Piano” by Ernest Chausson and “Legend-Sonata in F# Minor” by Arnold Bax.

Christopher, an associate professor of music theory and cello, received his Bachelor of Music Education from the New England Conservatory of Music and his Master of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Memphis.

He has written articles that have been published in the Jacques Offenbach Society Newsletter, Strings, Bass World and American String Teacher. Christopher has given presentations at Louisiana Music Teacher Association conventions and served as chair of their String Committee. The Music Teachers National Association recognized him as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Cello in 2007.

Christopher’s research interest has led to premier recordings devoted to the cello duos of Offenbach as well as publishing a score in performance format.

Bogaczova is a staff accompanist and instructor of piano at Northwestern State. She was an accompanist at the Conservatory of Bratislava, Slovakia in 2011-12 and an adjunct instructor and collaborative pianist at Northwestern State from 2008-2011. Bogaczova earned a bachelor of music and master of music from Northwestern State. She accompanies students for juries, junior/senior recitals, graduate recitals, and competitions. Her duties include accompanying faculty and serving as accompanist for the NSU Concert Choir and collaborating with guest artists. Bogaczova has performed as a member of Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra, NSU Chamber Orchestra and NSU Jazz Orchestra.
