“This is a tragic loss for our family and for all those who considered him a close friend as well as a loss for The Munson Group,” said his son Robert.
Bob was well-known throughout Louisiana and beyond for his work in the political arena. A native of Cheneyville, he graduated from LSU and followed in his father’s rather large political footsteps as a campaign strategist and public servant.
He successfully represented clients from United States Senate campaigns to gubernatorial races in states across the country, though it was Louisiana politics he loved the most. In his element, Bob was known as a man who ran campaigns ethically and with integrity in a business rarely known for either. A Baton Rouge Business Report article once described him as “the consultant who cares more about improving the name recognition of his clients than his own.”
Bob also worked as a Chief of Staff, Undersecretary of State for Finance and Management, Assistant Commissioner of Administration and Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Legislative and Governmental Affairs. While those jobs taught him much, he has always preferred building and overseeing his own business.
In 2009, Bob bought KJA Communications Group in Alexandria. He eventually merged it with Munson Group and turned it into a thriving successful business, with clients across Louisiana and in 7 other states.
Bob’s passion was Louisiana. He believed that our state had the resources, people, talents, and potential to climb out of the statistical holes and change the existing negative perceptions.
Through his work, he forged personal relationships that would last his lifetime.
Bob is survived by his wife Tracy Brasher Munson, mother Kathryn “Kitty” Munson Dammon, daughter and son-in-law Leigh Neri and Michael Neri, son and daughter-in-law Robert J. Munson, III and Sarah Sullivan Munson, daughter Morgan Anne Munson, grandsons Andrew and Alexander Neri, Jackson Munson and Joshua Peek.
