Funds are missing from the Rapides DA office. District Attorney Phillip Terrell had already announced an auditor found financial problems.
The first two-sentence statement by Terrell is followed up today by a report to the police jury. As caretakers of the courthouse, police jurors have been curious about how much money is missing and how this happened. Police jurors also oversee some funds that are fueled by collections made in the DA’s office.
The investigation has been undertaken by the state police, and Terrell has made it clear his office will not handle any prosecution connected to missing money. That will fall to the State Attorney General, because the district attorney and his staff are both witnesses and victims in the case.
Terrell has also mentioned that the person of interest immediately resigned in lieu of termination.
